On June 10, 2022, I had the privilege of conducting a specialized training program on Digital Transformation for a distinguished group of BFSI (Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance) delegates from Nepal and Bhutan.
The session, organized by TrustBiz Asia, brought together Board members, C-level executives, and senior managers from leading Commercial Banks, Development Banks, and Microfinance institutions.
Strategic Innovation in BFSI
The training was designed to move beyond the theoretical and dive into the practical “Blueprints” for digital survival and growth in the modern era. At Acuitology Lab, we apply these same high-level strategic lenses to the technical solutions we build today.
During this highly interactive session, we explored a wide spectrum of use cases:
- Diversified Financial Use Cases: Strategic applications of technology across Commercial Banking, Insurance, and Consumer Finance.
- Digital Investment Frameworks: How financial institutions can effectively allocate capital toward digital infrastructure that yields measurable returns.
- Corporate Innovation & Fintech Partnerships: Navigating the “Build vs. Buy vs. Partner” dilemma to accelerate digital adoption through collaborative ecosystems.
Transforming Delivery: Open, Platform, and BaaS Models
A core focus of the training was understanding how banks can diversify their revenue streams, product, and service offerings by adopting models that reshape how financial services are delivered. We explored three primary architectural shifts:
- Open Banking: Where the bank securely shares data (with consent) with third-party providers to enhance customer experience and transparency.
- Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS): Where the bank provides its core infrastructure, products, and licensed services as a utility for other businesses to build upon.
- Platform Banking: Where the bank acts as a marketplace, integrating third-party products and services into its own ecosystem to offer a holistic financial lifestyle to the user.
Empowering Regional Leadership
Engaging with senior leadership from the Himalayan region provided deep insights into the unique challenges and opportunities within their respective financial markets. For Acuitology, these interactions are vital for understanding the regional and international market dynamics that drive demand for secure, transparent, and scalable financial technology.
Reflections
It is an honor for Acuitology to contribute to the professional development of regional banking leaders. By sharing insights on Digital Investment and Strategy at the executive level, we help bridge the gap between legacy financial systems and the future of decentralized, data-driven banking.
“The evolution of the BFSI sector is no longer just about digitizing existing processes, but about fundamentally reimagining the bank’s role as an infrastructure provider and a marketplace. Mastering the shift toward Open Banking and BaaS is the key to unlocking sustainable revenue and strategic relevance in a knowledge-driven economy.”
